About
About The Selection Table
Fantasy sport advice that shows its working, and keeps score of its own calls.
The Selection Table is independent. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by News Corp Australia, SuperCoach, the NRL, the AFL, Cricket Australia, the Big Bash League or any other league, club or player. SuperCoach is a trade mark of The Herald and Weekly Times Pty Limited. Other names belong to their owners and are used only to say what our articles are about.
The Selection Table writes about fantasy sport: who to pick, who to leave out, when to trade and who to captain. We started with the Big Bash because its summer is short, busy and full of double game weeks. Rugby league, Aussie rules and other codes follow, all under one membership.
Editorial policy
Where the numbers come from
- Cricket match numbers come from Cricsheet's ball by ball data, under its open licence. See data and credits.
- Fixtures and squads come from the public announcements of the league and clubs, entered once, cited on the page, and rechecked weekly.
- Fantasy points are our own calculations from those numbers. We label them as ours, and say when the scoring table behind them is unconfirmed.
- Game prices, when we use them, are read and typed in by a person who plays the game, then checked by a second read. We never scrape any game or league website.
How we check a piece
- Every number in an article traces to the data or to a cited public source, listed at the end of the piece.
- Every piece shows who wrote it, when it was published and when it was last updated.
- Pages that change on the day, such as team news, say when they were last checked. If we have not checked, we say so rather than guess.
- Mistakes are corrected in place with a note saying what changed and when.
How the content is made
Ned Calloway is the pen name of the coach behind the site. One person picks every team, makes every call and signs off every article. Drafts and tables are prepared with our own software, including AI tools, from data we are allowed to use, and checked by that person before they go out.
Keeping score of ourselves
Advice with no record behind it is just an opinion. Each round we will publish a report card that grades our own calls against what happened, right and wrong.
What we will never publish
- Betting tips, odds, bookmaker links or sponsors, or paid entry prize leagues. This is a fantasy sport site only.
- Promises of points or results. Our calls are opinion, and the report card shows how they went.
- League, club or game logos, or photos of players we have no licence for.
- Paid placements dressed up as advice. Advertising is labelled as advertising, and members see none.
Free and members
Explainers, fixture grids, squad lists and the top of every list are free. Members get the full rankings, the weekly calls with their reasoning and the tools. See membership.
